Switch2Move

Design brief: Re-designing the remote of Switch2Move, a TV connected tangible interface with one push button to trigger music-supported dance exercises. These exercises have a clear benefit on psychological symptoms and increase the cognitive functioning and fitness of people living with dementia.

The Switch2Move 2.0 is designed to empower individuals with dementia, enhancing their autonomy and independence. Its improvements include action coupling with a clear distinction between the start, stop, and pause buttons, each indicated with different (light) colors and icons. An attention-grabbing feature was added to lure the user in. When the user approaches the device, the same signal will appear on the TV making the connection between the two devices clearer. The shape of the remote ensures a comfortable grip resilient against falls. Lastly, the device offers a shake feature for music switching. This keeps the users occupied longer, reducing the pressure on the caretaker.
